Technical description

DPD Reagents are a colorimetric method based on N-Diethyl-pphenylenediamine that, when in contact with the water sample, react by turning magenta in proportion to the concentration of chlorine in the water.

DPD tablet reagents are white and have a crystalline appearance.

When a DPD reagent tablet is not white but gray/brown in color, this reagent cannot be used.

Phenol red is used for pH measurement. The tablet produces characteristic colour changes when dissolved in the water sample. The pH value is important for the disinfection effect of water treatment products. It can also cause corrosion or precipitation and thus damage materials. Lovibond ® tablets contain thiosulfate to compensate for the disturbing influence of chlorine on the measurement in pool water analyses. Furthermore, carbonate levels, temperature and buffering capacity of the water sample can influence the measurement and must therefore also be taken into account. The fast-dissolving tablet was developed for use in rapid tests such as pool testers, test kits or comparators.
